Jonny Lipford is a world-renowned musician of extraordinary talent with more than 20 years of experience with the Native American flute and various world flutes. He has amassed dozens of accolades for his work; having written more than 200 original songs, released 18 commercial albums, and toured nationally, appearing for audiences of up to 14,000 people. 

Not only is Jonny a gifted musician, but he is also an accomplished and highly-sought after instructor, leading thousands of students each year through courses, workshops, lessons, and an exceptional online learning membership.

Born with the odds stacked against him as drug-resistant infections ran through his tiny body, Jonny was given very little chance of survival on multiple occasions. Suffering from chronic ear infections and other ailments throughout his childhood led him to have over 30 surgeries. Today, Jonny lives with a completely rebuilt ear canal and eardrum, which makes hearing nuances in music a challenge, but not defeating.

Jonny became captivated by the sound of the Native American flute through a cartoon shortly after his 13th birthday. Later that same year he received his first bamboo Native flute as a Christmas gift. Much to his surprise, he was able to create melodies and beautiful sounds in a short amount of time, even after his failed attempts at learning to play the piano and being told that he was not musical and should pursue other interests.

Playing the Native flute in the comfort and safety of his home helped Jonny feel calm and relaxed and, while he recognized that this flute could help others feel the same way, he struggled with social anxiety. Despite these intense emotions of fear in his adolescent years, he leaned into the power of this instrument and began sharing his music with others. 

Jonny has had the privilege and honor of sharing the stage with amazing musicians over the years. Some of his most notable collaborations have been with Mary Youngblood, R. Carlos Nakai, Jeff Ball, Scott August and Michael De Maria. These experiences have not only broadened his musical horizons but have also helped him to develop as a musician. Each of these artists brings their own unique style to the industry, and Jonny has learned a great deal from observing and collaborating with them. He is grateful for the opportunities he has had to perform with such talented musicians and looks forward to many more collaborations in the future.

Having a passion for music and its ability to connect with others is evident in everything Jonny does. Whether he is teaching a class of students, performing on stage or creating new music in the studio, it’s his mission to connect with others to help encourage and inspire them. He understands the power that music can have in connecting people from all walks of life and believes that through music, we can all learn more about each other and come together as a community.
